Does input filtering makes sense if you use Mongoose?

I am wondering if it's necessary. If I implemented my own DAO layer and used SQL, I would certainly need it, but I am wondering if Mongoose already implements some security measures. I am asking, because a lot of applications on Github don't seem to do it.
