I need to emit messages using a Socket.IO socket from Express controllers

Hello, as the title says, I'm trying to use Socket.IO together with Express.js, and am having trouble making it work. Is there a canonical way of using the socket from inside controllers? Or some guide I could peruse? Thanks in advance
