is JWT alone enough for account management in MERN stack or do i need to use passport too?

i am building a MERN SPA and want to include an account management functionality(logging in, Sign up). so far i have understood JWT but passport is a bit difficult to understand.can i continue using JWT without passport or do i need to learn passport too?
