List of items very slow and sluggish?

I have a list which displays some data about files, but it is incredibly slow when the size of it increases. I have about 2000 files and when they load (which takes at least 30 seconds) the whole UI becomes very slow and laggy. Scrolling has loads of lag, with about a 4FPS average and highlighting entries by hovering the cursor over them takes a long time as well.What are some general ways to mitigate this in Node? How could a list like this be done better?
