How do I ensure that when Netlify or Heroku serve my app to a client, the proxy Express server is launched along with it?

I've used proxies briefly before, but I've built out all my API routes with it and linked it into a MongoDB Atlas server as my back-end for a small app. How do I ensure it launches when a hosting services like Netlify serves up a production build to a client? I'm a noob when it comes to builds.
