Chatting/Post comments on apps: Webservices or XMPP or Websocket?

Hello,I am developing a native iOS and Android apps for my company for internal communications app (more of social network). In that, users engage on some social posts that company people publish, ranging on all topics. And, people are allowed to comment on them. As, this chatting (? Not really chatting) cannot get as realtime as actual messaging app, I am debating with my team that XMPP and Websockets are overkill. What I am proposing is REST API POST (for posting comments) and GET (for fetching messages) and Push Notifications for letting users know that there is a new comment (which helps also get make another GET call for recent updates)I am also worried that can my proposal scale enough?P.s: I also posted this question on r/iOSProgramming, as I thought of listening folks from there too.
