I am trying to understand the async microservice architecture. Is gateway an event-bus?

I have read that the event-bus driven system is one of the preferable ways to design the microservice architecture (are there better ways?). And, some suggested me to use the gateway API to manage auth system. But, when I read about the gateway API, it seemed like it was the event-bus? And, should auth service go through the event bus as well?
