How do I send data to client?

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING EVERYWHERE AND CANNOT FIND AN ANSWER. It has been weeks and I have been getting frusturated. After a request is made, I want to edit an html element on the client using node. How can I do this?​Please help. If I can't figure out this main thing I am gonna quit.
