What's the best way to store and fetch "Most Recent" in Node.js?

Suppose a user is creating a post and they want to select certain tags for that post. Application have a section called "Most Recent Tags" to show the tags that was selected most recently. My question is what is the best way to handle this?. Should application send some kind of request to express endpoint ? or it is better to use some kind of in-memory data structure like redis.
